What is really important in Bohm's thought?
Discussion with Jack Sarfatti

The unstated theme of my last essay was the synthesis of Bohm's 1952 theory

[Jack]
yes, a theory

with his implicate order theory.

[Jack]
no not yet a theory - a vision too vague for a theory

[[[Peter]]]
My point is that both the body-like particles and the mind-like waves unfold from the quantum implicate order.

[Jack]
Too vague. I have shown with equations how geometry and matter emerge from the Josephson phase modulation of the long range coherent mental order parameter psi(x) breaking the symmetry of the completely random false vacuum of the spin 1 gauge force fields. This is Wheeler's "It From Bit" ~ Matter From Mind.

"Implicate Order"? Who ordered that? Parsimony dictates more with less, big bang for small buck which stops here.

I don't doubt that you have modeled *something*, but it was not what needed to be modeled. The idea I have just presented is of objective particle and self-reflective wave both unfolding from the implicate order. The particle aspect of the field is then correlated to the explicated consciousness of something and of itself, while the self-reflective nonlinear wave is correlated to the transcendendental consciousness gained by passing to ever more refined levels of the Mind and then surpassing all such levels. This explains synchronicity, among other things, to say nothing of indicating the correct solution to the quantum-mind problem and the hard problem. Out of these real insights will come the correct mathematics - the correct answer to the correct question. The question is: What is the real nature of the reality in which we imbedded? What is the matrix? Hint: it is not an objective thing - it is a subjective process. The subjective reality is vast and complex, much moreso than material reality, and yet material reality can never be understood independently of the subjective reality. Like it or not, that is where quantum theory is leading.

See, my conclusion is that Bohm has given us the following gnosis:

THE MATERIAL CORRELATES OF PURE PHENOMENOLOGICALLY REDUCED CONSCIOUSNESS ARE THE ELEMENTARY WAVES AND PARTICLES OF A NEW TYPE OF RADICALLY UNIFIED QUANTUM FIELD THEORY. THIS IS THE NOTION OF COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS WHOSE BODY IS THE COSMOS.

ONCE WE UNDERSTAND THE ETERNAL EXISTENCE OF PURE PHENOMENOLOGICALLY REDUCED CONSCIOUSNESS AND ITS EMBODIMENT IN THE COSMOS, THEN WE CAN UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY THE ONTOLOGICAL LIMITATION THAT PRODUCES SENTIENT BEINGS, EACH WITH AN INDIVIDUAL STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS.

THE STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS SUPERVENES PRIMARILY ON THE BITS OF EXPERIENCE, NEUTRAL BETWEEN CONTENT AND CONSCIOUSNESS, BUT SECONDARILY ON THE NETWORKS AND NEURONS OF THE BRAIN.

THIS IS THE BASIS ESTABLISHED BY WILLIAM JAMES FOR SUBJECTIVE ATOMISM, WHICH IS THEN ESTABLISHED AS THE ONLY VIABLE MODERN PHILOSOPHY BY ALFRED NORTH WHITEHEAD. THIS IS THE ONLY CONCEIVABLE FOUNDATION FOR A REAL ADVANCE IN THE FIELD OF MODERN PHYSICS.

You see, the point is that a materialistic type of science that only describes an abstract material realm has reached the end of its rope. What we need now is something that addresses the human side of the equation: how are we as human subjects embodied in the material reality? Without understanding this, science cannot advance further. For 75 years now there has been no significant advance, because people did not want to accept the conclusions of the Copenhagen Interpretation. The rejection and false characterizations of the Copenhagen Interpretation are really just symptoms of resistance to its deep and revolutionary conclusions. Until the workers in the field "get over it" and regain their sanity, there will be no further advance. Bohm was the sanest physicist of his generation. Like Dali, he walked the razor's edge between sanity and insanity, but only because he could. Most of the "Bohmians" have fallen into complete and utter insanity. Those who are able should make sincere attempts to grasp what Bohm really said and carry it further. I believe that I have distilled the quintessence of what he really said, undistorted by unconscious resistance to the revolutionary conclusions of the Copenhagen Interpretation.
